Hawaii-born candy entrepreneurs flex sour power with Moana 2 collab

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Moana 2 hits theaters on Wednesday and two Hawaii-born candy entrepreneurs are riding the wave of excitement with a Disney collaboration.
Better Sour founders Bella Hughes and Semira Nikou joined HNN’s Sunrise to talk about launching their new Llikoi Passion Fruit Gummy Stars with Moana 2 branding.
The two lifelong best friends said they grew up eating tart fruits and snacks from around the world and started their own sour gummy candy brand in 2023 inspired by their Middle Eastern roots and island upbringing, with flavors like guava and calamansi and pomegranate and apricot.
“We’re a very small startup so feel incredibly fortunate to be able to work with Disney and their support of small women owned and minority businesses. Moana is such a strong, independent, fearless character and a role model for girls and women everywhere and this really resonates with us as women business owners,” they said.
“We spend a lot of time doing research, understanding our market, the main point we’re addressing and ultimately, how we can be of value to our customers and bring joy to their lives and something they’ve been missing from the candy aisle.”
They said each bag of Better Sour gummies have 70 calories and 4 grams of sugar. They’re available in 3,000 stores nationally, including Foodland, military commissaries, KTA, 7-Eleven, Longs and Amazon, and on Hawaiian Airlines.
